amen to this. The anime lacks just about all the nerdy jokes (which made me like it in the first place), adds a bunch of bits that make no sense historically ,and is basically irritatingly-cutesey fanservice. I think I gave up at around episode 7.
Also, in regards to the photo - i didn't know Ivan owned floral pajamas.*chuckles*
The thing about Hetalia is I have come to expect that it is no longer about history. It's just an anime where the characters are kinda sorta based on countries.
Hetalia's fanservice doesn't bother me soooo so much (not commenting on fanart there -THAT is terrifying). What gets me is how much they waste time. Like, it's a five minute episode, thirty seconds of which go to a theme song, and then they drag out "story" arcs like "America cleaning his shed"... and I don't even remember the American Revolutionary at all in the manga.
It's like... they miss the comic timing that is suggested by the manga. It could be a really good anime, but it's falling a bit short.
*nods* i see where you're coming from. I completely agree with you on the timing. I guess I got into it because it was genuine nerd fodder with the odd bit of ho-yay in its manga form. So the anime just doesn't float my boat.
Which isn't to say other people won't find it entartaining.
