The Night Prince - Chapter 4Chapter FourIn Which Byron and Lucia Arrive In TownSoon enough, the grassy meadow gave way to a well-trodden path that led into town. The town descended along a steep hillside, so, if one were to approach from the hilltop above, then one could not see even the town's tallest buildings until reaching the hill's crest. The white horse quickened its pace, presumably realizing that it was very nearly home. Lucia asked if this was the case, and Byron assured her that there was a great mansion just a few hundred paces away. Lucia nodded and waited the sight. As they reached the apex of the hill, there it was. A cobblestone main street spilled down the slope, with dozens of little shops and houses placed on either side of it. The Night Prince - Chapter 3Chapter ThreeIn Which Lucia Encounters A Prince On A White Horse, Although Things Do Not Happen Quite As One Might ExpectLucia awoke with a start upon hearing a dreadful scream. She scrambled to her feet and looked around. The woods appeared no friendlier by morning. In fact, the gnarled trees were all the more intimidating by virtue of them still being there, even though both the night and the storm had passed. Lucia had been secretly hoping that the awful chaos had all been some sort of fearsome dream."AAAAAAAGH!"Lucia startled once more. This scream was from a source much nearer. Simultaneously, there rang the sound of frantic galloping. Lucia wondered if it might be Hellbred that she was hearing, but she quickly determined the gait sounded uncharacteristic of the familiar horse. However, there wasn't time to dwell on the thought any longer, for a blur of blue suddenly burst from a clu

As the night grew ever colder, she knew had to find somewhere to take shelter. Her first thought was of the farm. The place was familiar and she would be welcome there. Besides, it was relatively nearby and she wanted very much to get out of the cold. She set off towards the farm, although the fearsome winds made the journey quite difficult. As she neared the farmhouse, she heard a frightful cry. It was Hellbred. The beast had gotten out of its stable, likely to investigate the curiously noisy storm. Now it was stranded in the open field with no way to get back inside. Lucia approached carefully. When the beast saw her, it whinnied and kicked, galloping around her in a wide circle. Lucia lowered her hood and showed her face.
